This season of Giving and Gratitude, we ask you to consider helping a neighbor in need by supporting the YMCA of Montclair’s financial assistance fund.
In recent years, our young people have faced some of the greatest challenges as their education has been interrupted, routines disrupted, and valuable experiences delayed. Many studies have demonstrated the significant impact the pandemic has had on young people's development and the growing number of mental health issues. Â
As school resumed this fall, the YMCA of Montclair has stepped up to support our teens. We are committed to helping teens meet their potential while building youth resiliency, and fostering the next generation of leaders. We can do so much more with your help. Â
This fall, our Y has re-launched some proven youth development programs, including The Seventh Grade Initiative. This program provides free memberships for 7th graders including access to Park Street's Teen Room, open gym & swim times, free youth fitness classes, and free workshop programs. Â
Teens come to the Y to work out, visit the teen space to see their friends or get homework help. They come to the Y because it is a safe place to go after school. We are also hard at work planning additional teen programs focused on civic engagement and life skills, including Teen Leaders Club.
Countless statistics have shown that crimes impacting youth happen between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 PM. We believe that being the safe haven for young people during this time supports their development, and prevents many potential negative outcomes. Â
This fall, our Y has committed over $100,000 to teen programs, which are either free or low-cost for our teens, because we believe in the importance of supporting our young people. This would not be possible without supporters like you.Â
There’s never been a better time to build a better us.
