As part of our commitment to Youth Development, the YMCA of Montclair offers an assortment of educational enrichment programs, sports and athletic activities, social events, and more to assist teens in discovering, exploring, and expanding their interests and talents beyond the classroom. Most of these programs are offered at little to no cost. Financial assistance is available for individuals who reside in Bloomfield, Cedar Grove, Clifton, Glen Ridge, Montclair, and Verona with demonstrated need.
TEEN PROGRAMS
7th Grade Initiative
The 7th Grade Initiative Program provides 7th graders with opportunities to grow during a pivotal stage of physical, emotional, and social development. At this critical time, positive influences, safe environments, and supportive role models can have a lasting impact. Through fun and structured activities, the YMCA of Montclair helps participants build confidence, strengthen character, and develop lifelong healthy habits.
TEEN AMBASSADORS
The new Teen Ambassadors Program unites teens ages 15-17 to develop socially responsible and community-driven youth leaders by providing opportunities for leadership training, mentorship, volunteer service, and civic engagement. Through hands-on experiences and guided reflection, teens will strengthen their voice, build confidence, and make meaningful contributions within their communities.
Civic Engagement: MODEL UN AND YOUTH & GOVERNMENT
The Model UN Program is a hands-on civic learning initiative for students in grades 6 – 12. Participants will take on the role of diplomat while engaging in respectful discussions about the state of the world and exploring solutions to international challenges.
The Youth and Government Program offers students in grades 6–12 a hands-on way to deepen their understanding of civics by taking part in a simulated legislative process that leads to the creation of laws. Delegates will participate as senators, assembly members, justices, lawyers, press members, and other political figures.
TEEN CENTER
The Teen Center will reopen for the 2026-27 season on Monday, September 14. The Teen Center is open Monday-Friday from 3:00pm-6:00pm.
Free to members ages 12-15. Teen Members can enjoy a dedicated space to hang out with friends, play games, and relax. The Teen Center is supervised by staff at all times. Located on Park Street’s 2nd floor by the Fitness Studio.
