Ever wonder how journalists do their job? How does an idea become a news story? And how do we know when we’re on the trail of a good story? In this summer program, junior reporters will have fun exploring the world of journalism. We'll start by learning the elements of any story by reading and dissecting various news sources. We will brainstorm ideas for stories and talk about what kind of visuals we can include in reporting. Expect to do research -- via print and online sources.
We'll practice our interviewing skills and study leads, nut 'grafs' and kickers. Local journalists will 'drop by’ and talk about what a career in journalism is and can be like.
This program is a partnership between the YMCA of Montclair and the Montclair Local. The program will be led by Jaime Bedrin, journalist and adjunct at Montclair State University.
