As the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Montclair, it is my pleasure to welcome Jo Ann Short as the next CEO of this terrific organization. The search committee unanimously recommended Jo Ann to the Board on June 2, 2010. The board voted and approved her assignment to take this 119 year institution into the next phase of its rich and meaningful life.
To tell you a bit about her, in 2003, Jo Ann moved to PA to serve as the President/CEO of the Family YMCAs of Pottstown & Upper Perkiomen Valley. During her five year tenure as CEO; the Y turned a deficit to a surplus, doubled the revenue, took a non-facility branch to becoming a shopping center YMCA and merged with a neighboring YMCA (Phoenixville Area YMCA). Both YMCA boards of directors agreed to come together, and on January 1st, 2008, they became the Freedom Valley YMCA. Short assumed the role as Vice President.
Jo Ann began her career serving YMCA’s in Camden, ME, New Canaan, CT, Westport, CT and Milford, CT. She then served the YMCA of the USA as a consultant for program & membership with the New York MRC (Management Resource Center). Her next role was establishing a new financial development department for the Central CT Coast YMCA in New Haven.
Jo Ann is an alumnae of Springfield College with a BS in Community Leadership & Development and her Masters in Organizational Management & Leadership. With 24 years of YMCA experience, she is excited to take on this new role. Please join me in congratulating Jo Ann Hoffman Short as the new CEO of the YMCA of Montclair. She will begin the next stage of her Y career on July 1, 2010. Jo Ann’s email address is jshort@montclairymca.org. Feel free to reach out and welcome her.
Sincerely,
Terry
