Anita Peterson will lead the Y’s fundraising efforts to support its mission of strengthening the community.
Montclair, NJ — The YMCA of Montclair has named Anita Peterson its chief philanthropy officer. Peterson brings more than 17 years of nonprofit development and communications experience to the role, along with longstanding ties to the Montclair community.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the YMCA of Montclair and to continue working in a community that I have come to know and care so much about. The Y touches so many lives in many different ways, and I’m excited to help tell that story and build the relationships that will support its work for years to come. After nearly eight years at The Montclair Foundation, I’m grateful to have the opportunity to begin this next chapter while continuing to serve the Montclair community.”
Peterson joins the Y from The Montclair Foundation and Van Vleck House & Gardens, where she served as chief development officer and, during a leadership transition, interim executive director. Her work has included fundraising, board partnerships, corporate sponsorships, and programs that connect local nonprofit leaders. Earlier, she worked with the Montclair Public Library Foundation.
“Anita understands how strong relationships turn generosity into lasting community impact,” said Buddy Evans, president and CEO of the YMCA of Montclair. “Her experience and deep knowledge of Montclair will help us bring more people together in support of the Y’s mission.”
As chief philanthropy officer, Peterson will lead efforts to build donor and community support for YMCA programs and financial assistance, helping more individuals and families access opportunities to learn, grow and thrive.
“Anita’s appointment comes at an important moment for the YMCA of Montclair,” said Jack Pitts, board chair. “As we prepare for the Reimagining Park Street YMCA capital campaign, her leadership will help us build the partnerships and philanthropic support needed to shape the future of this historic community space. We’re excited to welcome her to the Y.”
