We have reached our original enrollment capacity, but are pleased to announce that we are able to open up additional rooms. We need a minimum enrollment number in order to open up these spaces. If you would like to enroll your camper please click the Register button for the waitlist. A director will contact you to let you know if we have enough campers to open the additional rooms.
We are excited to open on July 6, and we cannot wait to see our campers’ smiling faces!
As we prepare to reopen, please be assured that your child’s safety is our number one priority. We are following guidelines from the NJ Department of Health, American Camp Association, health experts, and local officials to ensure that our facilities meet the guidelines for hygiene and safety, and we have modified our policies and activities to facilitate physical/social distancing practices.
To minimize the number of potential contacts, there will be 2-week sessions and smaller groups. The weekly schedule includes STEM, science, nature, Healthy U, sports activities (no-contact), games & challenges, arts & crafts, and water games to keep cool.

We plan to bring normalcy back into the lives of the children and families in our communities. We want to ease your children back into the world of positive socialization, active engagement, and empathetic interactions with their peers and camp counselors.
We have created a plan to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the whole child: mind, body, and spirit. We will provide a supportive, nurturing environment for our staff, campers, and families.
In order to provide a safe and healthy summer camp environment, we understand that changes are necessary this season due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19. Based on current restrictions, the YMCA of Montclair has prepared the following safety plan and outline for the 2020 camp season:
All staff and campers will be screened daily, upon arrival to camp, and monitored throughout the day as needed.
- Temperature check (100.4 degrees or higher will not be admitted)
- Screening Questions about health, exposure, symptoms
- Physical observation by staff
A separate health space has been identified for any camper or staff who must wait to be picked up after showing signs of not feeling well. We encourage families to have an emergency pick-up person available to pick-up the camper within one hour of being called for camper illness.
Families will be asked to sign a YMCA waiver prior to their child’s first day of camp.
Camp staff and children will be asked to follow NJ DOH and ACA health & safety protocols during the camp day.
Parents are required to provide face coverings for their children. Campers and staff are required to wear face coverings when social distancing between groups is not possible. Face coverings are not required when campers and staff are within their camp group.
- Continuous cleaning by camp staff throughout the day
- Increased handwashing throughout the day
- Hand sanitizer available in each group room
- Cleaning of supplies after each group use (individual supplies in some cases)
- Nightly deep cleaning by a contracted cleaning company
- All staff will be trained to identify the risks and how to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including infection control strategies and cleaning & disinfection.
- All staff will be trained in Psychological First Aid: Supporting Yourself and Others During COVID-19.
- All staff will be trained on proper PPE use.
- All staff will be trained to recognize signs of and prevent child abuse, harassment, and bullying.
Campers will be placed in small groups, following State guidelines, with 2 consistent adult staff per group.
Camper groups will stay with their assigned camp staff throughout the day. While within their camp group, campers and staff are not required to wear face coverings.
Each group will be socially distanced from other groups.
Each day campers will need to bring their own non-perishable lunch, which does not need to be heated nor refrigerated. We are a nut-aware camp, so please do not send your camper with any nut products. Lunch boxes will be kept with the group in their air-conditioned room.
We will provide an afternoon snack for each camper. Parents are allowed to send their own snacks for their camper if they wish.
Parents are required to wear a face covering for drop-off & pick-up.
We recommend having the same person for drop-off and pick-up whenever possible.
Staggered drop-off & pick-up times (details to follow).
Typically we have an open-door policy, but due to State guidelines parents are not permitted in the building.
If a camper is picked up early, they will not be permitted to return that camp day (i.e. for a doctor’s appointment or school assessment).
ALL health history forms must be completed and immunizations uploaded by Friday, June 26th. Any camper who does not have a completed health history form and immunizations will not be permitted to attend camp. You can access your camper’s health form by logging into your CampInTouch account here.
Epi-pens and inhalers need to be dropped off prior to your camper’s first day of camp. They must be in their original containers with the prescription label. We recommend placing them in a Ziploc bag labeled with your camper’s name. A prescription medication authorization form is required (available on CampInTouch) and should be placed in the bag with the medication. A director will reach out to you to arrange medication drop-off.
In order to discontinue scheduled payments and received a full refund (MINUS the deposit), families must notify the YMCA of Montclair in writing (email@example.com) of any cancellations/changes 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the cancelled camp session.
Before Care and After Care deposits are refundable in full, up until 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the cancelled camp session.
Any cancellation/change notification later than 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the cancelled camp session will NOT be refunded.
One change of session per family is allowed at no cost. Thereafter, a $20 fee for each change request is applied.
