Justine oversees the Geyer Family Branch. Her passion for youth development, especially early childhood programming, was ignited over 17 years ago at her first Y job as a lead teacher of 4-year-olds. This may be the reason why you will often find her having fun in and out of classes at the Geyer Family Branch. She is inspired to develop others to see their fullest potentials no matter their ages. Justine is a proud mother of a daughter and a son. She holds a degree in English from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Tim was named the Interim CEO of the YMCA of Montclair in June 2017. Tim comes to the YMCA of Montclair with extensive CEO experience. He worked for the YMCA movement for over 40 years, 20 of those years as the CEO of the Summit Area YMCA. After leaving the Summit Area YMCA, he worked as the Resource Director for YMCA of the USA serving New Jersey YMCA’s. He retired from this role in 2013. His specialties include strategic planning, board governance, capital development and operational support. Tim is an avid but average golfer and loves spending time with his two grandsons. He also enjoys wintering in Central Florida with his bride of 35 years. Tim has a Recreation Education degree from SUNY Cortland.
Cheyenne is a lifelong Montclair resident and participated in our aquatics, camp, and extended care programs as a child. Growing up in the community in which we serve gave Cheyenne an interesting and unique perspective. She loves making family connections and watching our Kinder Members grow right before her eyes, much like she did with some of our veteran staff. Cheyenne enjoys traveling, singing, and getting to know people.
Lisa oversees all of the before/after school age child care programs, 24 sites in 4 different school districts and the New Discoveries Summer Camp. She has worked for the YMCA of Montclair for over 30 years and believes in its mission to allow every person the opportunity to be a member. Her father, a retired principal, inspires her drive for the importance of education and care for family. She is married with two children and has a degree in Family Child Studies from Montclair State University.
Dawn oversees the operations of the Y programs and facilities. She is dedicated to the mission of the Y movement and the impact it has in the community. Dawn is passionate about the work the organization is doing to provide the opportunity for children and families to experience the Y through its scholarship program. She has worked at the YMCA of Montclair for more than 35 years and is proud of the dedicated people she works with every day. Dawn has a degree in Physical Education and Community Recreation from Montclair State University.
Jose has extensive financial, operational and programmatic experience as an executive officer for nonprofit organizations, which has taken him to over 40 cities in 10 countries. Having previously run federal programs dedicated to building organizational capacity, Jose takes pride in now enabling the Y to offer more resources to both members and staff. Inspired by Henri Nouwen, Bill Hybels and the Rev. Luis Cortes, Jr., Jose strives to teach compassionate and effective community building. He enjoys watching college football, eating mofongo and pastels. Jose has a degree in Business Administration from Marymount College of Fordham University and is certified in Pastoral Care by the Blanton Peale Institute.
Kristin is a Program Director at the Geyer Family Branch. She can't remember a time when the Y wasn't a part of her life. She learned to swim at the Washington Street Y, was on the swim team and took gymnastics at Park Street and her first job was working as a counselor for Early Adventures. Kristin wants every parent and their child’s experience to be “awesome.” She has a degree in Sociology from William Paterson University and a teaching certificate from Kean University.
Rob manages the extended care program in Montclair with 10 sites serving upwards of 600 children and is the director of New Discoveries Camp. He thoroughly enjoys his part in helping the Y meet the need of the community. “We act as the ‘village that raises the child’ for many of the kids.” His proudest moment is Day 1 of camp each year when after months of preparing, he gets to see 300+ children ages 4 to 9 laughing, playing and building relationships. Rob has a degree in Biology from Montclair State University and completed training as a YMCA Organizational Leader.
Sandra heads the Aquatics programs at our Geyer Family Branch. She grew up in Spain and has always loved swimming and dance. Her aquatics experience includes working as the Assistant Aquatics Director at a Massachusetts YMCA summer camp and as a Lifeguard, Swimming Instructor and Aquatics Coordinator at the YMCA of Montclair’s Park Street Branch. She has also worked as an Emergency Medical Technician and in Emergency Medical Services with several organizations. Sandra holds a degree in Biology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and an Emergency Medical Technician-B certification. She is also a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor and a graduate of Hudson County Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Paramedicine.
Alesha implements all youth and adult sports programming at our Park Street Branch. Her love of sports blossomed in high school and college where she played basketball and ran cross country competitively. Alesha believes sports can change lives by helping individuals gain confidence, grow social skills, learn team building, hone focus, improve time management and build discipline. Alesha earned a degree in English Literature from Bloomfield College. Alesha encourages everyone to get up and get in the game!
Matt oversees the development and enrichment of swimmers ages 7-14 on the Dolphins Swim Team. He grew up around pools, but didn't start swimming competitively until age 13. Matt's passion for the sport drove him to success as a swimmer at Seton Hall Prep and at Bloomsburg University. With so many young athletes being rewarded for learning the value of hard work, Matt is proud of each Dolphins accomplishment. Matt has a degree in Communication Studies/Theater Arts from Bloomsburg University.
Kim leads our outdoor family programming, Adventure Guides, serves as the director at Camp at the Lake and is our association wide camping administrator. She is most proud of seeing participants who grew up as campers join the summer camp staff. “It’s rewarding to know you made a difference.” Kim’s co-workers and members inspire her. She has an impeccable gift with logistics and attention to detail. Kim has a degree in International Relations from the College of William & Mary.
Kimberley develops programming for youth in first grade through high school and programs for families. She's proud to have been a part of the Y's response team during Hurricane Sandy and year-round community outreach. She served with the United States Peace Corps and has lived in various parts of the world. She is fluent in Spanish and can converse in French and Tunisian Arabic. Kimberley earned a degree in Social Work at Wheelock College as well as certifications from Newark Do Something, Leadership Newark, Rutgers Emerging Leaders and Rutgers Volunteer Management. She also received the New Jersey After 3 Promising Practice award.
Marcia leads the Y’s development initiatives. She believes that fundraising is critical to allow more and more people to benefit from the YMCA’s innovative and impactful programs and services. Marcia is a second generation Montclair native who attended local schools and is active in a number of community organizations. She loves the enthusiasm and passion which she encounters when she mentions she works for the YMCA of Montclair. Everyone loves the Y and everyone seems to have their own Y story. In her free time, Marcia loves to travel, hike, bike, sail and cross country ski. Marcia has a degree in Political Science from Brown University and a graduate degree in business from George Washington University.
Gretchen develops communication, marketing and public relations programs that promote the Y’s mission and values. She loves the Y’s inclusive environment, a place that embraces everyone regardless of background. Best-selling author and TEDx speaker Simon Sinek inspires her. A self-described chocoholic, Gretchen’s favorite hobby is flameworking. As a child, she appeared on several episodes of Sesame Street. Gretchen holds a degree in Government from Skidmore College and a graduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from New York University.
Sam leads the Park Street Branch aquatics department, which includes everything related to the Park Street pools, Lifeguard CPR training and Swim Team. He feels that swimming is an important life skill that everyone should know. Sam’s mother, an immigrant who raised seven children, has been his inspiration—she always had her door and heart open to help anyone she could. Sam has a degree from Rutgers University and is a certified teacher. He acquired the YMCA Organizational Leadership Certification as well as several aquatics certifications including Lifeguard Instructor, YMCA Swim Lesson Training and Aquatic Management. His motto is “swim for life.”
Paulo drives the daily operations of the Dolphins Swim Team including 233 swimmers and the supervision of 10 coaches, team training and all things competition related. Born in Portugal, he has been swimming since the age of 6 and moved to the United States at 17. Paulo’s proud moments occur when swimmers, at the end of their high school Y careers, thank him and the coaches for helping to shape their lives. He competed on his college swim team for four years and broke a record in the 200-meter breaststroke. Paulo has a Computer Science degree from Montclair State University.
Jen oversees member relations, membership sales and the nursery at our Park Street Branch. She has a diverse professional background that includes engineering at a nuclear power plant, sales, marketing and project management. Jen has a passion for strengthening families and sees the Y as the perfect place for them to find the community, belonging and wellness they need to thrive. Jen loves reading, cooking and music. When she's not at the Y, you’ll find her with her husband and three children. Jen studied Chemical Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Desireé cultivates relationships and manages various projects that advance the Y’s mission. Her passion to do the good work of the Y inspires her to think, dream and plan more profoundly. Desireé has applied her knowledge, creativity and love of logistics when planning and managing Y events in addition to working closely on a multitude of projects with the President. “Each day is diverse like our Y community and that is what I enjoy!” Her leisure is filled with family and lots of sports. Desireé has a background in business and event management, is a Montclair resident and proud parent.
Joy has worked at the YMCA of Montclair for over 25 years in many capacities, presently as our Systems Coordinator. She appreciates the Y mission and what it stands for. The love of the Y extends to her family too—her three children grew up in the Child Care Center, participated in programs and are employees—definitely Y kids! She is devoted to family and friends and in her free time enjoys the beach, watching movies, or just silly dinner conversations. Joy has a background in computer technology and overseeing/implementing software programs to balance the needs of ever growing organizations.
Washima oversees all Park Street Branch group exercise classes, the personal training department and the fitness floor staff. She also implements all health and wellness programming. “We set ourselves apart from other gyms because of our strong commitment to Family Fun Fitness.” Her proudest moment at the Y was launching the Lose to Win Weight Loss program. Washima has a degree in Exercise Science and Sport Studies from Rutgers University. Her specialty class certifications include Registered Yoga Teacher 200-hour Hatha Yoga Instructor and 620-hour Registered Massage Therapist in addition to extensive training with individuals with special medical conditions and needs.
Ken is responsible for the health and well-being of our facilities. He thinks the Y is a great place for connecting people. Ken met his spouse at a Y where he was a member and she was the Health & Wellness Director. Ken is an army veteran and has over 40 years of contracting experience. Ken earned the nickname MacGyver when maintaining fitness equipment for another Y for his ability to make creative repairs. He is a certified Building Inspector, holds a Home Improvement Contractor License and is obtaining his New Jersey Black Seal Boiler Operator License.
