On Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 2 p.m.–5 p.m., the YMCA of Montclair will host approximately 65 athletes from three teams representing Livingston, Caldwell, and Wayne for the Essex County Special Olympics Swim Meet. This will be the fourth time the YMCA of Montclair is home to a Special Olympics New Jersey Swim Meet.
Athletes can look forward to a day of fun and competition. The games will open with a parade of athletes, torch lighting, and the Special Olympics athlete’s Oath.
The competition includes 18 races, including the 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 individual medley, 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle.
The Montclair Police will present all swimmers with medals after each event, in front of a very enthusiastic crowd of family and friends of the Special Olympians.
“Our community is welcoming and leads with inclusivity. This event is just one of the ways we celebrate that,” said YMCA of Montclair CEO Jo Ann Short.” “This meet has fostered the partnership between our two organizations, where the YMCA of Montclair Dolphins swim team members and their parents serve as event volunteers.”
Matthews & Company Realty is the event’s lead sponsor. Also contributing is Studio 042 of Montclair.
