Serving the YMCA movement since 1986, and in Montclair since 2010, Jo Ann guides the Y’s mission and ensures that the organization meets community needs. Her staff, who are creative and so committed to the Y’s mission, inspire her each day to do more. She also feels inspired by the generous, diverse Y membership that so reflects the greater Montclair community. Jo Ann is married with two children, cheers on Duke basketball and enjoys hiking the Appalachian Trail. She has a degree in Community, Leadership and Development and a graduate degree in Organizational Management and Leadership, both from Springfield College.
Dawn oversees the operations of the Y programs and facilities. She is dedicated to the mission of the Y movement and the impact it has in the community. Dawn is passionate about the work the organization is doing to provide the opportunity for children and families to experience the Y through its scholarship program. She has worked at the YMCA of Montclair for more than 35 years and is proud of the dedicated people she works with every day. Dawn has a degree in Physical Education and Community Recreation from Montclair State University.
Jose has extensive financial, operational and programmatic experience as an executive officer for nonprofit organizations, which has taken him to over 40 cities in 10 countries. Having previously run federal programs dedicated to building organizational capacity, Jose takes pride in now enabling the Y to offer more resources to both members and staff. Inspired by Henri Nouwen, Bill Hybels and the Rev. Luis Cortes, Jr., Jose strives to teach compassionate and effective community building. He enjoys watching college football, eating mofongo and pastels. Jose has a degree in Business Administration from Marymount College of Fordham University and is certified in Pastoral Care by the Blanton Peale Institute.
Kim leads our outdoor family programming, Adventure Guides, serves as the director at Camp at the Lake and is our association wide camping administrator. She is most proud of seeing participants who grew up as campers join the summer camp staff. “It’s rewarding to know you made a difference.” Kim’s co-workers and members inspire her. She has an impeccable gift with logistics and attention to detail. Kim has a degree in International Relations from the College of William & Mary.
Gretchen develops communication, marketing and public relation programs that promote the Y’s mission and values. She loves the Y’s inclusive environment, a place that embraces everyone regardless of background. Best-selling author and TEDx speaker Simon Sinek inspires her. A self-described chocoholic, Gretchen’s favorite hobby is flameworking. As a child, she appeared on several episodes of Sesame Street. Gretchen holds a degree in Government from Skidmore College and a graduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from New York University.
Chris is passionate about providing Y members with beautiful, clean and safe buildings. His proudest Y moment was completing extensive repairs and renovations in three weeks during shut down one summer. Chris knows, among other things that pantyhose can be used as an emergency replacement for a broken fan belt. He spends much of his leisure time helping coach his daughter’s nationally ranked volleyball team. Chris has a degree in Physical Ed/Corporate Fitness from Montclair State University, holds New Jersey Black Seal Boiler Operator and Home Improvement Contractor Licenses and is a certified CPT with the Scaffold Industry Association.
Desireé cultivates relationships and manages various projects that advance the Y’s mission. Her passion to do the good work of the Y inspires her to think, dream and plan more profoundly. Desireé has applied her knowledge, creativity and love of logistics when planning and managing Y events in addition to working closely on a multitude of projects with the President. “Each day is diverse like our Y community and that is what I enjoy!” Her leisure is filled with family and lots of sports. Desireé has a background in business and event management, is a Montclair resident and proud parent.
Joy has worked at the YMCA of Montclair for over 25 years in many capacities, presently as our Systems Coordinator. She appreciates the Y mission and what it stands for. The love of the Y extends to her family too—her three children grew up in the Child Care Center, participated in programs and are employees—definitely Y kids! She is devoted to family and friends and in her free time enjoys the beach, watching movies, or just silly dinner conversations. Joy has a background in computer technology and overseeing/implementing software programs to balance the needs of ever growing organizations.
Jon is responsible for all technology needs, including the computer network and phone system, across the Y’s locations. “If it plugs in, I usually have something to do with it.” Since 2011, Jon has filmed and produced the Y’s 1891 Community Gala honoree videos. He admires Steve Jobs and Bill Gates for taking “crazy ideas” and running with them. Jon loves spicy Indian food and progressive rock music; he manages a band and handles project management for a local concert series. Jon is a trained Microsoft Certified Professional and has a background in culinary arts.
