YMCA Adventure Guide program provides children and their parents with opportunities for good times, learning, and mutual understanding.  In the program, a parent and child meet with other parent-child pairs in a small group called a Circle.  Circles plan their own small group activities which they organize themselves.  Circles also gather together for larger group activities organized by the YMCA staff, such as “expedition” weekend trips to the Frost Valley YMCA Camp, overnights at the zoo, marching in parades, river rafting trips and more.

compass

With the general theme of “Adventure”, the compass points lend inspiration for activities and focus.

In Adventure Guides, the parent serves as a guide in a child’s life.  Parents lead, direct, supervise, influence, and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them.  Parents form their own small groups called Circles, (usually among classmates, neighbors, friends, etc.), and run their own monthly activities based on their schedule and preferences.  Training and leadership materials are provided to new participants.  The Circle is the program’s basic group unit, providing structure, a sense of community, and support for all members of the group.
